2018 Fall Events for Kids

Tuesday, September 4 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm
First Tuesday Lego Club

Kids in grades K through 8 are invited to spend an afternoon making their own Lego creations while visiting with old friends and making new ones.  Everyone is welcome – Legos will be provided by the Library.  Registration is not required.

Monday, September 10 – Thursday, November 1
Fall Story Times for toddlers and preschoolers will start on Monday, September 10 and run until Thursday, November 1. Registration is required, parents or caregivers of children may register in person at the Library or by calling 734-426-4477. Space is limited so registration will be on a first come first served basis. 

Children 18 months to 3 years of age may sign up for one Toddler Story Time. Toddler Story Times are held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 am. Children under 18 months may attend, however books and activities are geared for toddlers. Children 3 to 5 years of age may sign up for one Preschool Story Time. Preschool Story Times are held on Mondays or Tuesdays at 11:30 am.  Combined Toddler/Preschool Story Times will be offered on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. Drop-In Story Times for all ages will be offered on Thursdays at 10:30 am in the lower level meeting room from September 13 to November 1.  Infants are welcome at story times with their siblings.  Parents or caregivers are required to attend. Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Fall Story Times for children include picture, pop-up and interactive books, flannel-board stories, songs, puppets, finger plays, crafts and other activities that encourage a love of reading to your child.

Super Stories Book Club
This is a book appreciation group for kids who are going into grades K through 2.  We’ll share stories, have snacks and do activities.  This month’s theme is “Forest Animals”.  Registration is required, call 734-436-4477 to register.

Thursday, September 20 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm
All Star Readers Book Club
This is a book discussion group for kids in grades 3 through 5.  This month we’re reading The Mysterious Moonstone by Eric Luper.  Registration is required, call 734-426-4477 to register.

Friday, September 21 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm
Fall Crafts for Preschoolers
Kids ages 6 and under are invited to stop by the Library and create a variety of seasonal crafts.  Registration is not required.

Wednesday, September 27 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm
Makerspace
This is a drop-In program for grades K through 8.  Make, build, craft and explore.  Participate in a variety of open-ended activities.  We supply the materials and you supply the imagination. Registration is not required.

Saturday, September 29 at 10:00 am
KinderConcert!

Music comes alive at KinderConcert, a 30 minute concert designed especially for children ages five and under. No worries about wiggly tots sitting still for a concert – they’ll dance and move while listening to the music.  Then they’ll be mesmerized by hearing a story being told with musical accompaniment.  Members of the A2SO join movement specialist Gari Stein and pianist Kathryn Goodson for a guided introduction to the instruments of the orchestra.  Registration is not required.

Morning Movie for Preschoolers
Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005)
It’s a hilariously haunted Halloween in the Hundred Acre Wood, and Roo’s best new pal, Lumpy, is excited to trick-or-treat for the first time. That is, until Tigger warns them about the dreaded Gobloon who’ll turn you into a jaggedy lantern if he catches you. But if they catch the Gobloon before it catches them, they get to make a wish. When Pooh eats all the Halloween candy, Lumpy and Roo decide to be “brave together, brave forever and catch the Gobloon”.  Rated G – 67 minutes. Preschool snacks and drinks will be served during the movie, registration is not required.

All Star Readers Book Club
This is a book discussion group for kids in grades 3 through 5.  This month we’re reading The World According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birny.  Registration begins Thursday, September 20.

Wild Swan Theater Presents Frog and Toad
Wild Swan Theater continues its tradition of bringing the finest professional theater to families with Frog and Toad, an enchanting production especially created for little theater goers.  Based on Arnold Lobel’s wonderful stories by the same name, Frog and Toad will captivate children of all ages.  Kids will recognize some of the dramatized episodes, such as Toad’s efforts to hurry along his garden by speaking poetry to his seeds, or the difficulties Frog and Toad face trying not to eat ALL the delicious cookies Toad has baked.   Registration is not required, everyone is welcome.

Join us for 30 minutes of stories and music celebrating Halloween.  Geared for children ages six and under but everyone is welcome.  A simple craft will be provided following the program.  Registration is not required.
