John Hardy participated in lunch counter sit-ins, protest marches, and boycotts throughout the south during the volatile period of 1959-1963.  Working for the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, he served on the Freedom Ride coordinating committee and as an organizer and trainer at voter registration schools.  While assisting local black citizens to register to vote in Tylertown, Mississippi in 1961, John was pistol-whipped by the County Registrar and ordered to "leave his office and the state of Mississippi."  He was later arrested by the local sheriff and jailed on charges of resisting arrest, inciting a riot and disorderly conduct.  Please join us as Mr. Hardy recounts his experiences and reflects on the ensuing changes.
