Summer Reading Program Kick-Off “Build a Better World”
Guy Louis’ Family Fun Concert
Looking for a fun way to start out the summer? Guy Louis' Family Fun Concert is a rocking and rolling good time featuring upbeat, kid-friendly music that both kids and parents will be dancing along to. Register for one of four summer reading programs offered at the Library and join Guy Louis on a family fun musical adventure. Everyone will be thrilled with the many instruments, songs, and more. You may even get to dance on stage.

Following the performance, head down to Farmers Market for some light refreshments and a chance to meet and play old time baseball in the park with Dexter’s 1860s Union Baseball Team. Everyone is welcome.

This unique, live farm animal presentation explores the vital link between Michigan agriculture and building a better world. Recycling, composting and organic farming are covered in this fascinating hands-on, interactive program for kids of all ages. Live chickens, goats, geese, ducks and more are featured and all the animals have been born and bred in Michigan.

Drop-In Summer Story Times
Summer Story Times are drop-in and held on Mondays and Thursdays at 11:00 am in the lower level meeting room.  This program is geared for ages 6 and under but everyone is welcome to attend one or both sessions.  Daycare centers may attend Summer Story Times but are asked to arrive early.  Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Summer Story Times for children include picture, pop-up and interactive books, flannel-board stories, songs, puppets, finger plays, crafts and other activities that encourage a love of reading to your child. These events are free and open to the public.

Big Truck and Emergency Vehicle Day
An annual event at Dexter District Library, we will host a large variety of trucks and emergency vehicles for children and adults of all ages to experience, rain or shine. The parking lot will be closed during this event to allow freedom to browse, tour and talk to the owners and operators of the wonderful machines that make our lives easier and safer. Bring your camera, there will be plenty of photo opportunities with the vehicles and a Minion as our special guest. Everyone is welcome.

Drummunity!
Dexter resident, Lori Fithian, has been facilitating drum circles and leading workshops for many years.  Her program has been a favorite at the Library.   A Drummunity circle is a word Lori invented for the community-building that happens when people come together around a circle of drums. You won’t believe your ears when you hear the group playing together - on everything from hand drums, pickle buckets, salad bowls to muffin tins.   Musical experience is not necessary. This is a high energy, interactive, fun and empowering event for all ages.

First Tuesday Lego Club
Kids ages four and up are invited to spend an afternoon making their own Lego creations while visiting with old friends and making new ones.  Everyone is welcome - Legos will be provided by the Library.

Meet the Dreadbots – Dexter High School’s First Robotics Team
Robotics teams create purpose-built robots each year, designed to play in highly competitive games. The robots operate autonomously as well as under the control of its student operators, who use game controllers to actuate about a dozen electric motors and pneumatic cylinders that power the robots during intense matches. Dreadbot team members have diverse and varied roles including programming, cheerleading, mechanical design, statistics, strategy, business planning, graphics and more. Many students learn new useful skills and become proficient on tools ranging from plasma cutters to 3D printers. Dexter students are strongly encouraged to consider joining the team. Kids ages 6 and up are invited to a 60 minute presentation of robotics demonstrations and hands-on participation. Registration is not required.

Secretary of State Mobile Office in Dexter
The Secretary of State Mobile Office will be in Dexter to serve area customers on Friday, July 14 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Services offered by the Mobile Office include driver's license renewal, instant titles, address changes, signing up for the Michigan Organ Donor Registry, obtaining license plates and tabs and much more.  Residents can also ask questions about services.  The Secretary of State Mobile Office will be located in the Library's parking lot, near the main entrance.

Acting Up Theatre Company Presents: Oh Brother Builders
Billy Builder has done nothing his whole life but prepare, design and build things for his company. Buddy on the other hand is more of a bumbler than a builder. He spends most of his time folding blueprints into paper airplanes and catching Pokemon on the worksites. The Brothers are given a rush job by the pickiest man in town, Mr. Finicky. The pressure of the impossible deadline and the fact that Billy is serious and Buddy just messes around nearly destroys their brotherly relationship. Kids of all ages are invited to join us for an interactive show about building a better world through planning, perseverance and play.

This teen program takes kids ages 11 through16 into an Acting 1 class in the Library. They are taught the three aspects of theatre by our trained Teaching Artists: Imagination, Commitment and Teamwork.   All of the kids are asked to participate. Registration is required.

Naturalist Endeavors Presents: Portable Pond Ecology
Kids in grades 1 through 3 will learn about the different kinds of ponds, the types of animals that live in the ponds and what makes each pond unique.  Naturalist Randy Baker brings a variety of small pond creatures from multiple ponds.  Students will have a chance to be scientists, get their hands wet, make observations, capture and sort the small creatures and learn the importance of our wetland habitats.  Registration is required beginning July 1.

Flying Aces Professional Frisbee Team
The Flying Aces have entertained audiences of all ages for over 34 years. They are experts in Frisbee golf, Frisbee dog acts, Ultimate Frisbee, snakeboards, hacky sacks or any subject related to alternative sports. In fact, the Flying Aces Pro Frisbee Team is the only full-time pro Frisbee demo squad in the world. You can't get much more unique than that. Kids will love the spectacular athletic skills displayed by the performers. The show ends with an audience participation contest. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

Over the past 20 years, he has performed thousands of concerts all over the country, dazzling audiences with his mad-cap shenanigans, musical hi-jinx and original songs. Everyone is invited to this all music, all participation performance for all ages.   Refreshments will be served at Farmers Market following the program.
