Donating to Dexter District Library’s Summer Reading Program

The Dexter District Library’s annual Summer Reading Program is just around the corner and once again we are asking for your support.  This year, the Library is planning an exciting summer of reading, programs and prizes for the entire community.  We hope you will be able to help make this year’s event a great success and be part of keeping our community reading and learning throughout the summer.

Last summer over 1,300 children and teens and over 150 adults participated in this popular seven-week series of events.  This year’s theme, A Universe of Stories, will focus on inspiring the Dexter community to dream big, believe in themselves and create their own story.

There are two ways in which we could use your help:

  • Donations of gift certificates or giveaways – last year we filled over 800 goodie bags with prizes and gift certificates for children, teens and adults who met their reading goals and completed the program.
  • Monetary gifts to support programs and professional entertainment – scheduled events at the Library generally run from $200 to $500 depending on the performer with additional costs for items such as refreshments.

Throughout the summer, residents of the Dexter Community and visitors from neighboring communities visit the Library.  During the course of the 2018 Summer Reading Program, the Library welcomed nearly 55,000 visitors to the Library.  The Library prepares a ‘Thank You’ board, recognizing donors to the summer reading program and displays this continuously in our lobby and on our LCD screen advertising events throughout the summer.  Additionally, all sponsors are thanked through a special section in our fall newsletter, which is delivered to nearly 10,000 households in our service area.

We appreciate your time and consideration.  Donations made out to the Dexter District Library are tax deductible.  Your contribution makes a big difference in helping to motivate our community to keep reading.  If you have any questions regarding the Dexter District Library or the Summer Reading Program, please feel free to call us at 426-4477 or email me at
