Jim Gill Concert in the park – Summer Reading Kick-Off Event

Get ready to sing, clap, dance and spin along during this visit by award-winning musician and author Jim Gill.  Jim Gill’s distinctive music play creates the spirit of a family room in the concert hall and is an invitation to children, parents and grandparents to sing and play together! No registration is required for this FREE outdoor concert.

 

Drop-In Summer Story Time at the Library

Toddlers and Preschoolers

Drop-In Summer Story Time for toddlers and preschoolers will start on Monday, June 27 and run through Thursday, August 4. We will primarily be meeting outside on the Library terrace adjoining Mill Creek Park North, so make sure you bring along chairs or blankets to sit on.

Story Time will be held on Mondays and repeated on Thursdays at 10:30 am. Books and activities are geared for toddlers and preschoolers. Each program lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Our story times will include picture, pop-up and interactive books, flannel-board stories, songs, puppets, finger plays and other activities that encourage a love of reading.

*Story Times will be held downstairs in the large meeting room in case of inclement weather.

**There will be no story time on Monday, July 4.

Viewers are transformed into Storyologists when they join Page Turner and Kenny on an epic, interactive quest to discover the Lost Library of Atlantis. Along the way, they explore Coral Reefs, The Bermuda Triangle, Arctic Waters, and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Filled with fascinating facts and fabulous fiction, this Four-Part Adventure is designed to educate kids about our oceans while inspiring them to read books AND visit the library. This drop-in event is for all ages. Stop by the Library on Friday, June 24 any time from 10:00am until noon and paint a seashell. No registration is required.

 

Creature Conservancy LIVE Animal program

Meet some unique animals such as a bearded dragon, pancake tortoise or armadillo during this live animal program. Registration is required.

 

Lego Challenge

Join us for a building challenge at the Library. Use a selection of provided Lego bricks to construct an object to fit the theme chosen by the Librarian. Registration is required.

 

All Star Readers Book Club

All Star Readers Book Club will meet in person this summer. We’ll play an icebreaker game, have a book discussion, and do an activity related to the book we discuss. Books will be available to pick up at the library after you register. Registration is required.

During our Ice Cream Social, we will give out sweet treat themed craft bags. They will be also be available after the program while supplies last. Kids of all ages are invited to stop by the library and pick up a bag with a variety of seasonal or themed crafts to make at home. No registration required. Limit 5 per family.

This is a story and craft program held in person at the library for kids transitioning out of story time and into book club. Adults should attend this program with their children. Each month Ms. Krista will read books related to a theme and then the kids will make a theme related craft. This month’s theme is dinosaurs. Registration is required.

This is an independent book club for first and second graders held in person at the library. Ms. Krista will read longer picture books centered on a theme and the group will participate in activities and crafts related to the theme. This month’s theme is dinosaurs. Registration is required.

 

Big Truck and Emergency Vehicle Day with popular pup mascot

The Dexter District Library will host a large variety of trucks and emergency vehicles for children and adults of all ages to experience, rain or shine. The parking lot will be closed during this event to allow freedom to browse, tour and talk to the owners and operators of the wonderful machines that make our lives easier and safer. Bring your camera, there will be plenty of photo opportunities with the vehicles and a popular pup mascot.

Learn about the different kinds of ponds, the types of animals that live in them and what makes each pond unique. Our naturalist will bring a diversity of small pond creatures from multiple ponds. Participants will have a chance to be scientists, get their hands wet, make observations, capture and sort the small creatures and learn the importance of our wetland habitats. Registration is required.

 

Finding Nemo Interactive Movie
