The term “Detroit Style Pizza” became official in 2012 when a man named Shawn Randazzo coined the term. But the pizza itself goes back to 1946 when Italian immigrant, Gus Guerra, came to the United States and opened a bar called Buddy’s Rendezvous. Gus and his family came up with a pizza recipe that was one part Sicilian and one part Motor City.

Join author Karen Dybis for this Zoom presentation and find out how this Motor City inspired pizza style transformed from a neighborhood bar in Detroit to an international sensation. Learn about the International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas and explore the kitchens that fought over and worked to perfect the Detroit Style that put Detroit up there with New York, Chicago and New Haven when it comes to pizza.
