Poor reading skills continues to be one of the major impediments to getting and keeping a good job or obtaining stable living situations. Did you know that one adult of every eight in Washtenaw County lacks the basic skills to read, write or communicate in English? In an effort to combat this problem, the Dexter District Library is hosting representatives from Washtenaw Literacy who will discuss “The ABCs of Washtenaw Literacy: Volunteer Recruitment and Orientation.” on Tuesday, October 1 at 7:00 pm in the Dexter District Library meeting room. This program will give those who are interested in volunteering to teach adults how to read an opportunity to meet representatives from Washtenaw Literacy, find out about tutoring opportunities and learn about the tutor training provided by Washtenaw Literacy. Registration is not required.
