Cooking with scraps is a delicious way to help tackle food waste! Join Lindsay-Jean Hard as she shares why food waste is such an important issue to address, teaches how to transform often discarded food scraps into delicious and surprising culinary creations, and empowers participants to make changes in their own kitchens with waste-reducing tips for storing and preparing meals.

Lindsay-Jean Hard’s passion for sustainability and education at the University of Michigan went on to inform and inspire her in many ways from going to extreme lengths to recycle at a post-college job to creating her cookbook, Cooking with Scraps, a labor of love inspired by her Food52 column of the same name. Today, she strives to convince everyone she meets to try eating banana peels and works to build and connect new communities as a marketer at Zingerman’s Bakehouse and Zingerman’s Service Network in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

(Note:There will be time for a book signing for those that wish to purchase a copy of “Cooking with Scraps” at the end of the program. Books will cost $20 and can be paid for with cash, Venmo, or CashApp)

This program will be onsite in the Library’s Lower Level meeting room. Registration is required. Register below or  call the Library at 734-426-4477.

The Library has updated its programming attendance requirements.  Face coverings optional but encouraged in group settings.  Face covering requirements are subject to change without notice.  Registration is required for in-person programming.

During the Spring of 2022, the Dexter District Library will require registration for all indoor, in-person programs.  Registrants will need to register all members of their party.  During this time, only pre-registered attendees will be seated.  To provide for adequate social distancing, the Library will need to limit the number of in-person attendees at each program.  Past attendance patterns for in-person events would frequently exceed current COVID-19 capacity limits.  Walk-ins cannot be accommodated.  The Library will continue to monitor COVID-19 conditions and the Library Board will review these requirements on a monthly basis.
