Flamenco is one of the most expressive and influential forms of dance and has profoundly influenced dance styles from ballet to modern.
Join flamenco enthusiasts, Derek and Pam Brereton, for a multimedia lecture on the inherently fascinating artistic genre known as the Spanish Flamenco. The presentation will consist of videos of flamenco performances, alternated with descriptions, explanations and anecdotes from Derek and Pam’s many visits to Spain.
View a fabulous performances done at the Flamenco Club in Ronda, Andalucía, as well as in Madrid. The primary singer, Pedro Sanz, is considered one of the very best performers in Spain. This is a one-hour presentation and is appropriate for all ages.
About the presenters:
Derek Brereton has earned three master degrees and a Phd in cultural anthropology from The University of Michigan. As an experienced presenter, he has given many talks and book presentations. Derek is the author “Old Barns and Country Skills of Southeast Michigan”, “Seven Keys to Spanish Culture” and “Campsteading: Family, Place and Experience at Squam Lake New Hampshire”.
Pam Brereton has a master’s degree in Special Education, sings with Ann Arbor’s Vocal Arts Ensemble and practices flamenco dance with a teacher and group in Ann Arbor.
