Michigan has always been a region of mystery. Many strange occurrences have been documented, and tales of allegedly paranormal activity continue to surface to the present day. From the notorious hauntings of remote lighthouses like Seul Choix to the hauntings of Eloise – one of the most famous psychiatric asylums in America –to the ghost of Minnie Quay, who still wanders Northern Michigan shorelines.

These are just a few of Michigan’s most haunted places explored by co-authors Jon Milan and Gail Offen (“Grand River Avenue: Detroit to Lake Michigan” Arcadia, 2014 and “Iconic Restaurants of Ann Arbor” Arcadia, 2016).

Join the pair of Michigan travel chroniclers as they take us on a road trip to “the other side”, exploring countless hauntings, ghost towns and bizarre tales of murder and mayhem, drawing from more than 300 years of Michigan’s modern history. Gail and Jon will discuss many of the more baffling and noteworthy, including Bloody Run, the haunted stream that runs through Detroit’s Elmwood Cemetery, haunted buildings at Greenfield Village, Houdini’s Detroit connections,  the poisonings at Cass Corridor’s Alhambra; the strange phenomenon of the Paulding Lights near Watersmeet – a mystery that Ripley’s “Believe It or Not”  once offered $100,000 to anyone able to solve– and even paranormal activity at Detroit’s historic Fort Wayne.

In addition, the pair will explore Michigan’s “most haunted” graveyard and stop in for a bite of mystery at haunted eateries like Detroit’s Whitney and Novi’s Shiro restaurant. Through the course of the evening, they will explore haunted theaters, antiques stores and even roads all across Michigan’s dark peninsulas. Be prepared to add your own accounts and tales, as well. A spooky and fascinating evening! Register at the Adult Service Desk or call 734-426-4477 (ext 120)
