During election seasons, there’s a heightened focus on the importance of democratic engagement in our lives. Whether you’re eager to boost your political savvy for more informed voting, or you’re contemplating a role in public service, it’s essential to grasp the intricacies of municipal governance and the responsibilities of various officeholders. Come along with Sanam Aldag, a Councilmember from the City of Dexter—for a conversation about the functions of various city officials including the Mayor, fellow Councilmembers, City staff, and members of City Committees & Commissions here in Dexter. You’ll gain insights into Dexter’s governing Charter, internal Council Rules, and strategies for embarking on your own journey to contribute to our community in these important roles.

About the Presenter:

Sanam received her degree from the University of Michigan’s School of Information in Archives and Records management, has worked as librarian and archivist, and currently manages a library of audiovisual and computing equipment at the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts.
